Arhar Dal Fry

Ingredients

For the dal

  • 72 g Arhar dal, raw
  • 3 g Salt
  • 1 g Turmeric / haldi

For the tadka

  • 2 g Cumin seed / jeera, whole
  • 20 ml Cow Ghee
  • 2 g Dried chillies, powdered
  • 6 g Ginger, fresh, chopped finely
  • 4 g Green chillies, chopped finely

To serve

  • 72 g Onion, chopped

Instructions:

For the dal

  • Wash arhar dal and add it to a pressure cooker along with turmeric and salt. Pressure cook the dal for 1-2 whistles or until cooked.

For the tadka

  • In a pan, heat ghee until nearly smoking. Add hing and cumin seeds and allow the cumin to crackle.
  • Add onions and cook until light golden. Add ginger, garlic, and green chilli and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, garlic, green chillies and red chilli powder and cook tor ~5 minutes, stirring frequently until the tomatoes are cooked through and the ghee separates.

To serve

  • Transfer dal to a serving dish. Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
