Ingredients
For the dal
- 300 g Lauki, long, raw, washed, peeled and cubed
- 60 g Chana dal, raw, soaked
- 0.8 g Turmeric / haldi
- 2.4 g Salt
For the tadka
- 16 ml Cow Ghee
- 1 g Cumin seed / jeera, whole
- 80 g Tomato, hybrid, raw, chopped
- 4 g Green chillies, finely chopped
- 2 g Dried chillies, powdered
- 1 g Garam Masala
To serve
- 4 g Coriander leaves, finely chopped
Instructions:
For the dal
- Add diced lauki, soaked chana dal, 2 cups of water, salt and turmeric to a pressure cooker. Close lid and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles, until the chana dal is cooked through.
For the tadka
- In a pan, heat ghee. Add cumin seeds and allow these to crackle.
- Add tomatoes, green chillies and red chilli powder. Mix and allow to cook for 4-5 minutes on low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes are cooked through and the oil separates.
- Add cooked lauki chana dal. Mix, bring to a boil on high heat, and allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Add garam masala, mix and turn off the flame.
To serve
- Transfer hot dal to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped coriander. Serve immediately.
