Black Masoor Dal is the whole, unpolished seed of the masoor plant, retaining its natural seed coat that gives it a deep earthy colour and warm, nutty aroma. Our black masoor is a small-grain variety, known for its superior texture and finer taste when compared with larger, more commercial grades.
When cooked, the grains soften gently while holding their shape, creating a rich, velvety dal that feels particularly comforting. The flavour is subtle and round, making it suitable for everyday home cooking as well as slow-simmered dals with layered spices. It pairs beautifully with ghee, garlic, tomatoes and simple seasoning.
Because the dal is unpolished, it retains the natural fibre and character of the whole grain, making it a wholesome choice for regular meals.
